Bible Tips:
What version
of the Bible should I read?
The Bible was originally
written in a combination of the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek languages. Up until around the 1960's, the most widely read
English-language translation of the Bible was the King James Version which was originally produced in 1611.
Since the 1960's,
many modern English versions have come out that make Bible reading much more understandable and enjoyable for the
modern-day reader. Below is a list of just a few of the most commonly used versions:
-
The New International Version
(NIV) - Is a direct translation from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek text. This is one of the most
widely used and accepted across a number of different Christian denominations.
-
The New King James (NKJV) -
is a revision of the King James version into modern day English.
-
The Living Bible -
Is a paraphrased version of the Bible and serves as a good study companion to an actual translation version.
-
The Message - Is a
paraphrased version of the Bible and serves as a good study companion to an actual translation version.
-
The Amplified Bible
- Is an enhancement of the American Standard Version to include additional words to more completely capture the
subtle Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek word meanings.
